SPEAKER_12I don't hate it. I still I genuinely still think two idiots is fucking genius. Genius. Because we're geniuses.
SPEAKER_10We are genius. Hey, you wanna what? Everybody will know when we have finally made it because I will be combing my beard on episodes with this broadcast fucking poverty comb.
SPEAKER_11Make it stop. Here you go, man. Have this.
SPEAKER_12It got ten thousand views. Created by yours, truly. I cry once a year! Okay? We can't ever just do something simple.
SPEAKER_10Oh, hi everyone. Like that time that you couldn't afford sleeves. There's a callback. Season one, I believe. First time you wore a tank on the show. Uh I said, yeah, Connor's so broke that he can't afford sleeves. All right. Yeah, nice. Very obscure reference. Sorry, people. Um, it has been a day and a week.
SPEAKER_12Yes. For both of us. Before we continue that conversation, welcome to episode 42. Hi. We're back at it with some more epic reactions. Because Matt enjoyed the first lot uh the Troy saga so much. So we're gonna dive into the next saga. Once he's finished fucking around I'm here now.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. You almost have my attention. Discord has to do with the show. I'm trying I'm getting to the thing.
SPEAKER_15God fucking damn it!
SPEAKER_12You have one of those. Yeah, my happy place is watching you spar in martial arts and get your ass handed to me.
SPEAKER_10Oh, I can't wait to to spar at you and see if I get my ass handed to me. Because fuck you, that's why.
SPEAKER_12I don't even know. That's that soundboard is clip is gonna make it in. Uh for those of you that don't know, uh Matt and I are voice actors and our um Discord is full of just random voice clips that him and I have curated and collected over the years. Uh so yeah, uh I don't know, maybe pop that in. And yeah. That sound you heard is Matt's new um stim of sound.
SPEAKER_10Uh by the time we record the next episode, uh I will have a live soundboard built in that will work with Squadcast. That's and then you think no one's gonna think I am a menace now. You have to admit though, I am fantastic soundboard and live sounds uh in conversations, live conversations. All in moderation. It'll be fine. The executive producer here will keep me in line.
SPEAKER_12You don't know the fucking meaning of moderation. Do you remember the first thing you started editing? And you were like, oh, I'm gonna put a sound here and I'm gonna put a sound here and gonna do this and it was You've come a long way. So maybe You've come a long way, so maybe maybe you I can trust you to show some restraint. I mean I know I wouldn't be able to. That's why you won't have access to it. Lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lizard, lady, lizard, Linda. Linda, honey. Oh, god, we're we're getting distracted already. Uh okay. Why has it been a week? So let's have a quick catch up. Okay.
SPEAKER_10Um work has been a lot.
SPEAKER_12Uh I think. Perfect. That was a quick catch-up with Matt.
SPEAKER_05They asked you, you just have to say that you're fine when you're not really fine, and you just can't get into it because they would never understand.
SPEAKER_01Well, I know it clip is going there.
SPEAKER_10That's how do you, so don't even say it. Braid cell. We'll see on the uh release. Uh again. No, so all of you guys understand is just stressful right now. I think for everyone, uh, just overly stressful, very understaffed. There's everybody's being asked to do uh way more than what their job description states. And that and it is what it is. Um we had uh AC was out. This guy wouldn't understand. Well, actually he does because he lives on the 75th floor uh of a stone building with record heat in the UK.
SPEAKER_01Um so you know, pretty hot here in uh Utah.
SPEAKER_10Good Lord. Um it is crazy here. Uh everybody stay safe. Stay away from the fire. Go away from the light.
SPEAKER_12But it's so beautiful.
SPEAKER_11I'm in danger.
SPEAKER_10Uh anyway, uh there's but I, you know, with that, it's been hot in the house, you know, animals and the family is hot, and that stresses me out as I'm trying to fix that and get that prepared, you know, good for everybody.
unknownKids.
SPEAKER_10How dare they ask if they can go somewhere and hang out with somebody. Uh anyway, uh that teenagers. Uh there's that with that. Um anyway, so got that fixed, but I think it's the post stress of going through that. And then, like, I don't think you realize how much noise is in your head when you have like five box fans and a giant blower going on at the same time at all times for almost a month. Yeah. And then as soon as it was fixed, I came home, and every little thing that I did was the loudest thing you've ever done. It was basically 2.8. It was that 2 a.m. midnight snack when you're trying to be quiet in the house with mom and dad when you're when you're a teenager, right?
SPEAKER_01Or just didn't you care explosion?
SPEAKER_10It's like 5 30 in the afternoon, uh reaching evening. It's fine. You can be loud, but it sounds like you know, an explosion just happened somewhere in the house because I opened the fridge. Like grab something. Yeah, I know. Uh and then just all of our projects and stuff we're working on. It's been a lot. Um, we've been working on a lot of stuff behind the scenes. Um, Con and I talk about our projects, and we're very proud of the stuff we're we're in and the stuff that we promote. Um but other than that, um there's so much of that that you don't see in the background of like everyone at work deals with bullshit, soda voice actors, and production companies. Um, and uh some of the production company stuff that Khan and I have been developing and working on and trying to work through has been Combat has uh been on a hiatus for a minute, but I have started working on it again. Uh just about done with chapter seven, we're so we're over halfway done with the book. Some day, sometime in your lifetime in a galaxy farm you're here not to be an exorcist in another world.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. But I I don't say this lightly, I it's gonna be worth the wait. Uh Matt and I are both extremely proud of what we're doing, the Combat Exorcist, and yeah. We will get quicker, we will get better. Uh we just obviously need, I don't know, like a constant revenue stream uh so that we can afford to just do this production stuff and the voice acting stuff. Should we?
SPEAKER_10I mean You say that and it just sparks a really kick-ass milestone that this podcast has reached.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, all right. We want to say thank you to every single one of you that has liked, shared, commented, but most importantly, subscribed as we have five hundred and shit.
SPEAKER_00Thirty-six, I think. We should be able to. I thought thirty-two. Without looking it's gotta be around there.
SPEAKER_10Uh but yes, as as kind of saying.
SPEAKER_12537 subscribers. So thank you. Yeah. Uh we never when we started this two years ago, we never thought uh that 537 people would enjoy our content. I mean, obviously it's always the dream. We still have the dream of having millions of subscribers that we can entertain and be performing monkeys for and just well, I was gonna say be idiots, but let's be honest, just be ourselves.
SPEAKER_10That's part of the beauty of our podcast, yes. Um yeah. Yes, uh absolutely thank you. Um over 500 is huge. I know we know there's podcasts out there and channels that are just astronomical and all that, and that's what's in the in the spotlight, right? But we also know that there are thousands of other content creators that are, you know what I mean, uh trying to do the same thing. So props out to them too. Hope they reach their their goals and all that. 500 is big for us. Um we are very close, you know, uh to some watch hours that we need. That of those 500 subscribed people, if you would go back and uh watch all the episodes, that would be grateful because we are very close to uh being able to reach another milestone on YouTube, which we will uh have another announcement for that when that happens, and we'll announce some very cool stuff uh coming from Disc Podcast uh for you in the future. So thank you so so freaking much. Uh thank you for changing the whole direction uh of our podcast and the original passion that we had in creating this as voice actors, uh, where this podcast becomes less and less about voice acting and more about reacting to the shit that you've already seen that you want to watch somebody else see to see if they have the same emotional uh reactions and connections. Um I guess it's all encompassing, right? Uh and speaking of that in the comments, by the way, you guys are awesome. And some of you have shared some uh some really deep deep stuff uh within your lives that really took Connor and I back a bit. Um but thanks like much love for for for sharing that and and uh and know that this community is always safe uh and and always good and we and we appreciate that.
SPEAKER_12Yes. Uh I I have kicked people out of my lives on TikTok before because they weren't uh friendly. We'll just go you could say whatever the fuck you want about me. I don't give a fuck. In here says a lot worse, so do your worst, that's fine. But when you start insulting my friends or people in my lives, then nah. Not okay. Bye bye. It's a safe space. It's a safe place, it's a fun place, and that's how it will always fucking be. Always.
SPEAKER_10Even when we're rich and we don't care about most of you anymore. I'm just kidding. That actually I don't think that Conrad. Do you care about them now?
SPEAKER_01Uh if you want to reference for that's another sound setup.
SPEAKER_10If you want a reference for that, we've talked about it before, but go check out an older video called The Honest Cable Company, uh put on by College Humor. Uh, please go check that out. You'll understand that mentality uh about uh oligarchies.
SPEAKER_12Um anyway. Uh speaking of fun, exciting, and creating, we should probably get on. We've been talking for about 10 minutes. We should probably get on with the reaction to the songs and this. Dude, fucking. Do you want to know what this is for?
SPEAKER_11Isn't that what we just said? This is for us. I'm trying to fight back here.
SPEAKER_10It's like, ooh, it makes so much sense that uh that it's like the rebels, right? Right? And the empire over here.
SPEAKER_12Uh the fuck am I the empire for? Listen to you. My allegiance is to the republic, to democracy!
SPEAKER_01Exactly. Jedi. Bad guys. Just like just like Karate Kid. Larusso's the bad guy in that story, if you really pay attention. He wrecked Jotti's life. Like ruined his life. 100%. He's not a good idea.
SPEAKER_12I mean, the biggest the biggest the biggest clue that the Jedi are the bad guys is when Yoda says do or do not, there is no try, but only a Sith deals in absolutes.
SPEAKER_10Just saying. Let's go great counsel. Anyway, uh, speaking of things that have to do with that uh that are epic, uh, I am very excited um to listen to the next saga. It's been a minute. I have listened to the fet that Troy saga over and over again in the car, and it always hits you in the car. I don't know if you guys feel that way, but it's just there's something about driving in the car by yourself. Just has always been my favorite way to listen to music. Um hands down, I cannot. Like I love concerts and all of that, but there's just something personal. But listening to this music, I mean, there was I should have been jumping up and down and just as much as I do to Ren and Webby. That's how I didn't realize that's how I felt about Epic when I was, but it like I was just like now. I'm in the car, just moved by it. Now I'm like, I will usually go back and like uh dissect di uh dialogue, right? Lyrics and things like that. And now I'm like going back, I'm like, okay, I'm gonna listen to that one trumpet because that shit was dope. Yeah. Like I want to hear that one instrument back and back and then again hearing it together. It's just it's it's nice.
SPEAKER_12The musical score throughout is just incredible. Jorge did such a fucking phenomenal job. Uh and the vocals are just stupidly good. Oh, the casting, the vocal, the characters, the way everybody got so involved in it. I just yeah. Uh it's why I nerd out with it. I can't wait for you to listen to this saga in the car because boy. Right, I am ready. Okay, so without any I am here. Sorry. You don't need a fucking soundboard. You're just doing them all. You're just doing them all by yourself, you fuck.
SPEAKER_10Focus, you fuck.
SPEAKER_12Focus, you fuck. Oh fucking fuck off. Apologies. Let's do this. Alright. Three, two, one. Anyway, if you want to see all right, fine. If you want to see metal reactions, you know where to fucking put the yeah, hell yeah, and some fucking.
SPEAKER_10Alright, I've already got it. So I'm gonna tease it right now because I've already got it right now. What we want to do is we want to compare some of our sort my daddy.
SPEAKER_01Um, so uh we're 20 minutes in!
SPEAKER_10Uh so we're gonna tease one of our old school classic favorite metal songs to something of a new age. We want you guys to have input on that as well of what we listen to. So it'll be Connor and I's choice, which this could be one episode or a couple episodes where we do my choice of classic and current favorite, Connor's choice of classic and current favorite, and your choice by a vote. We'll put a poll on there. I'll put a poll on this episode, uh, and you can answer or a question, or you can just in the comments throw it in the comments who you would like to uh your choices to be. We will take the most of the votes that we get, and then we will react to those as well. Can you what do you have?
SPEAKER_12Yeah, okay. No, I I like that idea a lot. Uh maybe I mean, yeah, we could do cla your fave your favorite of all time in your classic.
SPEAKER_10And I guess classics now is the song that got you into heaven. Yeah, you could do that. Yeah, uh what whatever that is, because generally your your your classic favorite is gonna be one of the first that you heard that really took hold. You know what I mean, and really got you into it anyway. So you choose that by band, by song.
SPEAKER_12Fuck epic. Let's just do that now.
SPEAKER_10Anyway, more details on that in the future. We'll throw out a little video on socials to give you guys some more details on that uh as that comes up so we can prep you for that. Do the things now. Let's get to do some more epic. Finally.
SPEAKER_12Yes. Uh go do the things. Like, share, comment, subscribe. Uh yeah, all that good shit. And three, two, one, here we go. Very sorry. Uh I should probably say who the animatics by. Uh this is another one by uh Merxy. Uh open.
SPEAKER_10Oh just oh a little bit. Uh hold on. Sorry, I need to.
SPEAKER_12So and we should probably recap where we left off, right? Obviously, uh Open Arms, and then it's Athena. Yes. I believe so, yes. And uh the Warrior of the Mind. And then no, Warrior of the Mind Fuck. Okay, so this animatic is by Mercy, uh, is another one of the fan favourites, and uh this leads straight on from I guess technically it would be straight on from open arms, where east that way, and they head over. Uh, and then obviously, yeah, Warrior of the Mind, and all of that. Just keep everything that you've heard so far in mind as we listen to this. Let's do it. This is Polyphemus.
SPEAKER_16Over here. Look at all this.
SPEAKER_13Look at all this case. I can't believe this cave is all this. Hey there.
SPEAKER_17We're just travelers. Come in, peace.
SPEAKER_01Damn. Okay.
SPEAKER_10There's already quite a bit. Um the animatic obviously helps quite a bit, you know what I mean, to to I mean it's just this is I love I love the style. So um but just with the uh the tonality of it, um because that gave you obviously gave me more with it starting out in a red hue and everything skewed. Yeah. Like, okay. So obviously you know what I mean? I mean, it's the gods, right? So yes, I will give you this, but you will also have to face this. You know what I mean? Um and then his choice of killing one first versus talking You know what I mean? Uh to the per to the uh one eyed dude. So what I was gonna get to was that low reverberation that you can hear on his voice and all that. Just it's it's a different way to have that uh demonic type sound that we hear uh in in sound design, right? And I like this because it's it's accompanied by what I imagined is is that uh is that an oboe? I think I think that's either another. Either an oboe, uh maybe a bass clarinet with that, uh possibly just a cello or a bass cello, you know what I mean? Or a big bass, rather. Um I'm not sure on that, but that is that melody going along with that. That one instrument just tells us about the story going along with it. But then I like how this moment is not so sing-songy.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, there's a series, which again the the one thing that I love throughout this every bit of epic is just how well Jorge captures the mood and each song makes you feel a different life. I as I've said so many times before, I like music that makes me feel whether it's happy, sad, angry, jolly well, whatever, just music that gets me here. Everything in Epic does that. It's just so good. Um but there's two things I want to talk about. Obviously, uh Mercy there is another animatic and I can't remember who it's by, so I apologize, but they have a more typical uh Cyclops design. I love Mercy's choice in this. Of it you could you still know it's a kind like it's a cyclops, it's a creature with one eye, but just to give it that more demonic and horrifying look, it kind of just really adds to the weight when you watch the when you're watching the animatic that goes along with it. Secondly, that's Jorge doing the Cyclops voice.
SPEAKER_10Oh nice. Very nice. And I I like yeah I like that. That's that's awesome. Because the choice the choice he made with it is you can hear the giant heart in the Cyclops and the love for the sheep, and and more of a simple, sensitive type of creature that is just like, well, this is yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean eye for an eye, right?
SPEAKER_12Yeah, choice words. Uh yeah, I need to know I need to know what stack of effects he put on to Polyphemus, because I want that in my arsenal.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, it's it's yeah.
SPEAKER_01Very good. Anyway. Very good, very good. Continuing to it.
SPEAKER_06You see, take from you like you took from me.
SPEAKER_03There's been a misunderstanding. We never came here to steal, but now that I see we've done some damage, maybe you and I can make a deal. I'll give you our finest try. You never wanna eat human flesh again, then we shall be on our way. No bloodshed in here today.
SPEAKER_17A trade you see, gift from you and a gift from me.
SPEAKER_10Mm-hmm. Um, I was trying to listen to that just to the beat in the background, because I love how it's the the drums, the instrument, and then you can just hear the uh the digital underneath it, right? But it has an accent piece. You know what I mean? That was just sing to yourself. We do it all the time. We voice act talk to ourselves, right?
SPEAKER_12Oh, absolutely, yeah. I I I speaking of, I just want you all to know I am fighting so hard to uh not sing along to this. Because this is one of my favorites to spell out in the car.
SPEAKER_00Are you okay?
SPEAKER_10Yeah, my network is struggling. You look like a character profile from a game from like 1985.
SPEAKER_00Standing.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. Is it pack? Is it back? Is it better? Well it's better, but it's not. It's getting better. I guess. Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_12The worst the worst bit is I can't even do anything to fix it because I need everything open open.
SPEAKER_10Is it really, really bad? It's much better now, but it was horrendous there for a minute.
SPEAKER_17From you and a gift from me.
SPEAKER_06Stranger what's got a set of sizes on it.
SPEAKER_04My name is Nobody. Nobody Nobody So I can do this anymore.
SPEAKER_12Cool, it's just you and me continuing with that. Oh, he's back. Okay. I apologize to all of your ears. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_10Or my favorite lyric in all of them.
SPEAKER_12And now you're just gonna hear me every time you listen to it. Yes, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm trying. I'm just gonna hit play, and we'll pretend that never happened.
SPEAKER_10I'm taking the piss. I love that you are feeling it that much that you can't help yourself. But to sing. It's wonderful, it's lovely, as you would say. Could you please remember to put your game on zero if you're gonna sing?
SPEAKER_15Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_12I'll just mute. In fact, I'm gonna mute now. We'll do that. I'm gonna hit play and then I'm gonna mute.
SPEAKER_04It's your name. My name is Nobody. Not nobody. Nobody's I want.
SPEAKER_02I'm so glad we see I d I shall be the final guy.
SPEAKER_06What?
SPEAKER_07Watch out.
SPEAKER_10That drop off. And I apologize, I know I was talking through some of that, but I was listening to it. That note on that last nobody but him saying who he is and nobody, and then that, and but hearing uh uh Polythemus, is that his name? Yeah, how his octave drops like dramatically on that last bit, and then it's just it's so good, and all of a sudden your mood just goes, ho, as every as all the instruments come down, and then it just drops and cuts you off, and you're like, that's the I'm in danger. Like that's the and then you know it's done, like he made his decision. It's like, oh, you'll be the last to die. Like I'm gonna make you watch all of them die. Like dang.
SPEAKER_12And then and then the animatic is just Yeah, Mercy, incredible, incredible job. Uh so I'm gonna quickly run it straight into the next one, uh, which is called Survive, which is also and this animatic is also by Mercy, just to continue. Um, because you have to, right? Uh and obviously when you listen to it on the album, then uh this just flows. There is no there is no cut, it just it transitions straight away into this. Can you hear sorry, I know I know I've stopped this real soon, but there is there is a reason. Can you hear the the the choir? Mm-hmm. You hear what they're saying? No. Poly polythemus.
SPEAKER_10Oh gosh, I just like the chant.
SPEAKER_12I guess. Okay. But it creates so much feeling and and and oh anyway, yeah, right, go. Fuck it.
SPEAKER_03We've got to live, we're gonna lose this so fight, fight, fight.
SPEAKER_12How good is Jorge's vocals?
SPEAKER_10Yeah. No, stupid. Like, um just just carrying each each line like it's its own song and really really driving you through. Like how he shows like that uh carrying side like he did um when polythemis had him in his hand, and then he's like, No, I I'm sorry, I apologize. That was not the intent. Like he is a good guy, but he's also willing to do what needs to be done. I think that's why and that's why Athena has chosen him, because he will pull the trigger, so to speak, on you know, if something needs to be done, you can obviously see the real intent of what she wanted, which was for him to take out Polythemos. And that's you know what I mean? She knew he would act that way and go for the food for his men and take advantage of his kindness uh to get him to do a deed that she wanted done that she can't do herself because of her status, right? Um so but him guiding you through that and then the the speech to his men and getting them going when you can tell what he's also really doing is trying to boost his own confidence because he realized what kind of a foe that this is. Oh believing in himself, you know what I mean, that he can do this and he was chosen, and so it's you're getting both angles and his vocals without having like contextual addition to tell you like a narrative telling you what's actually happening. It's beautiful.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, there's a narrative flow going on here. Yeah. Uh cool. I I don't know when I'm gonna I just I'm just gonna because I can't yeah.
SPEAKER_03Attack from behind the line, it's taking his life by steel.
SPEAKER_06You won't live this day down.
SPEAKER_12Oh, it's nearly done. Mercy. Yeah. That's such a good animatic. Oh my god. If you are listening to this in the car or on YouTube on the audio only, please do come across and check out the videos because Mercy's animatics.
SPEAKER_10Uh the strings throughout that just oh my. Especially when the the you know, it hit his chorus, you know what I mean? Um and and that that's gotta be a bass and a cello. That just you know what I mean? Just that the all the people that are playing the instruments and doing all the things just hats off to you. And Jorge. Sit the fuck down, dude. Like just damn. Um I don't I don't know. I don't know how I didn't like and maybe that's was designed that way, that he just didn't have this level quite yet. He had he's building and building as he goes throughout it, because in the first saga, he doesn't sing as much like this, but there's also, you know what I mean? Like it it's him, and I need to go back and listen to it, but there's just his ability to, I believe you said it last time, uh was to adapt to the scene and adapt his voice to the scene. And it's almost almost a different person singing, right? But he's evolved that character um to to come along like that, and now that he's uh uh here, the emotion's different, and I just told you this.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, no, it's I mean some might even say it's epic. I know you're excited. You show me after. Matt's been working on the round. Um as we said at the top of the video, nerding out too. And he's very excited by it. So I look forward to learning all about it after we finish letting me nerd out. And I am nerding out.
SPEAKER_10This has been uh even better than I expected in the second saga so far. I am leart. Good.
SPEAKER_12Good. Turn my fan off. I realize that's still going. There we go. It's warm in the booth, people. Uh okay, so yeah, that was um Oh god. We've just listened to it. Uh Polythemus. And then it goes into survive. Yes. Um very, very good. Very good stuff. So this next one is called Remember Them. Now we have two choices here. We can continue with the Merxi animatics, because they are fucking incredible. But this one by Wolfie the Witch was then later um brought in uh commissioned by Jorge. So this is the technically version official.
SPEAKER_10Uh yeah, let's do that.
SPEAKER_12So let's honor Jorge. Okay, so this animatic This animatic is by Wolfie the Witch. And again, flows straight in from the last one.
SPEAKER_04Captain Captain Captain! We must move quickly. We don't have much time.
SPEAKER_16He didn't notice I'm exploding his wine. Mark my words now.
SPEAKER_13This is not the end. But Captain, what'll we do with our fallen friends?
SPEAKER_03Remember that when the fire begins to fade for the fallen and today, we are not too late and I think Remember that we're the ones who carry God! Let's go to the gone! Can I come back with that? I need all my hands on this one, it's not just we have virtual There are more of them.
SPEAKER_09Hide virtue Captain, we should run wait.
SPEAKER_10Uh great guitars, and then the actual like the big drums, like the typo drums you can hear in the background, and just knows what he's doing. And the s and his singing there. You want to talk about literally evolving the character into being after that ordeal, and his voice is more gruff and hoarse, and he's worn down and ready to, you know what I mean, like do what he needs to do to to try and help the re everybody else survive and try to hold on to that humanity and the goodness uh obvious now. And aided a bit by the previous transgression, right?
SPEAKER_12So you know who you know who the first one to die was, right? You got that one. Yes.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't remember his name, but it was his companion, yeah. Polities.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. The one that you know, greet the world with open arms is cool. Just making sure. That's all. Because obviously because it's such a character defining moment for Odysseus. Like this this whole thing. And I coming back to what you said earlier about uh Athena choosing because he's the warrior of the mind. Like he's um uh he thinks differently. He thinks along different lines, doesn't he? He doesn't think, oh, let's just attack, attack, and kill and kill. He thinks tactic flea. He thinks about the tactics. I can't put words fine. Oh, that's a nice recovery though. Thanks. Tactically. Tactically, not tactic flea. Tactic flea is a tactic. Don't get me wrong. We're gonna tactic flea out of here. Right, before I struggle with words anymore, we're gonna carry on. I've put it back a little bit so we can enjoy all of that again.
SPEAKER_08There are more of them.
SPEAKER_09Hide you, Captain. We should run. Wait.
SPEAKER_12Love the writer.
SPEAKER_06Wait, it was no body. It's no body version. Don't go.
SPEAKER_12Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_16Let's grab the sheep and away we go.
SPEAKER_14Have you forgotten the lessons I taught you? He's still a threat until he's dead. Finish it.
SPEAKER_04No. No.
SPEAKER_03What good would killing do? When mercy is a skill all of this world could learn to use. My friend is dead! My friend was blind. Is this what it needs to be? Odysseus.
SPEAKER_12Okay, I will say uh the version uh that he re-released and re-recorded um got slightly different ending there. Uh I actually prefer the re- the newer one to that ending. It just holds a little bit more power, mainly in the vocals. Um but yes.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. Just power. That was that mean. Um and the defiance and like that defining moment of like he's still like with Athena, but he refuses to do things of that nature. Um and just refused her. Which is not good to refuse uh uh an Olympian god, but just saying it's ended well at all.
SPEAKER_12Right. It ends well for everyone and anyone who defies the gods, always. Yeah, always there's always happy stories around uh surrounding those that said no to one of the Olympian gods. It's fine.
SPEAKER_10Um I d I love the way that he that he gives out the infamous Odysseus at the end, you know what I mean? Very definitive, very just bam like I am he, you know, I'm him. Um and yeah, and and I did like the animatic uh I I liked how it uh how it did that, the the obviously the mental game of calling himself nobody, yeah, but then reporting, you know what I mean, to the other cyclops that nobody, so they're more simple-minded, so they're like tactics. That's it. Yeah, he's just that's the warrior of the mind, right?
SPEAKER_12Very clever. Yeah, like that's why Athena chose him, because he thinks outside the box in different ways to do things. Uh I just want to bring it back to this because the way the Jorge built tension, even without the animatic, just just the way that he builds the tension in this little scene here is just incredible. Like it's so simple and refined and yet so fucking effective. There are more heartbeat. The piano getting slowly higher up and then background until anti-climax.
SPEAKER_06Don't go.
SPEAKER_16Let's grab the sheep and away we go.
SPEAKER_12Sorry. And then see if you notice it.
SPEAKER_14Have you forgotten the lessons I taught you?
SPEAKER_12You know what you said in the first one about Athena's um little music before she appears. And this this is part of the reason why I wanted to show this to you because obviously, like the the callbacks that Ren does uh within his songs and you know the um Richard's tale, Vincent's tale, Violet's tale, uh all that how they are all interlinked and he calls back to each one.
SPEAKER_16There's just let's grab the sheep and away we go.
SPEAKER_14Have you forgotten the lessons I taught you? He's still a threat, and so I'm gonna be able to do it.
SPEAKER_12And then once it's once he defies her. No.
SPEAKER_04Still ticking, they're still in it.
SPEAKER_03Again, mad piano skills learn to use. My friend is dead, our foe is blind, the blood we shed, it never drives. Is this what it means to be? A barrier of the mind. Don't hey Cyclop when we match my lad with peace.
SPEAKER_12And then the end, but it still carries the same beat, it just changes to the drums because he is pulled away from Athena's power. Ugh!
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_12So clever.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, nice shout there.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. Hmm. So good. This is the kind of shit that I want to be able to do when you know narrative flow inevitably becomes world renowned. Uh so this is also uh another animatic. We're gonna move on to the next one because I'm aware of the time. But uh, yes, this is the next one. Uh, this is called My Goodbye. And uh the animatic, again, is by Wolfie the Witch. Again, this was commissioned later on in the in the creative process by Jorge. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Very nice.
SPEAKER_14You were reckless, sentimental the best. That's not a teaching of mine. You've grown soft. Your dead friends can attest. Hey, put your emotions aside. Mentally do it.
SPEAKER_03Unlike you. Every time someone dies, I'm left to deal with the strain. What's the time of Daddy God is collect? If I'll ever sleep at night, I'll remind you. I saw you as a friend.
SPEAKER_12But now I love I love that. That was a really nice touch there by Wolfie. Just the facial expression. Yes. Change of a theme. Oh shit.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_12Yeah.
SPEAKER_10And that that that change, you know, from her on her rant about Melody. You know what I mean? Everything. Yes. And then also the changes to Hore and it goes back to that calm, cool, collected as Odysseus is. Yeah. Um, especially with her, like he knows her game, he knows who she is, he knows what's up, how she operates, and he's not any and he's not being aggressive about it or any of that. He's just being very matter of calm and matter of fact. Matter of fact.
SPEAKER_12Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Which is probably the only reason that she was willing to break away peacefully. Otherwise, she'd just kill him.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. Oh, easily done. Yeah. Easily done. Don't ever get a don't stay.
SPEAKER_01She just had it in her head and just boop. Yeah, I'll go get another one.
SPEAKER_12I'll find another warrior of the mind. It's fine. Uh yeah, that this waste my time this way.
SPEAKER_03Close the door. Selfish and tryful in vain.
SPEAKER_12So good. Uh yeah, let's go back to this bit.
SPEAKER_03Now we're done with this way. You're gonna lie, this way.
SPEAKER_14You'll hear what I'm saying. One day, you might understand one day.
SPEAKER_11But not today, for after all, this time Ah, I felt that one in my soul, like the the butterflies, and then the your skin tingles, but it was like oh I that callback to uh I'm dead.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. It's it's the instrument changes as well. Like you know who's uh winning or who who it is, because each um you know Jorge said throughout that each character has their own instrument that's their main instrument. Um and I I believe I'm not wrong in saying that Odysseus is an electric guitar. Yeah. And Athena is piano. And yeah. And like just the way that it changes, like obviously it builds up as Odysseus is like trying to is is gaining the upper hand essentially in what he's saying. And then it cuts back to Athena and then it goes to more choir like synth keys. Uh anyway, we're nearly done. I should we just should just let this run out? Yes, go ahead.
SPEAKER_10And again, just just wolf with the with the animatic and the facial expressions on Athena, just insanely additive. And then and then as she's moving around him but not just walking around him, she's uh disappearing and apparating. And because she's a goddess, she can do that. Those those little touches. Uh yeah. Nicely done.
SPEAKER_12But yeah, let's let's try and let this play out unless something else uh tries to also bullsey of Odie to be like, you're alone. Fuck you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Dude's got a set on him. I'll tell you that. That's for sure.
SPEAKER_12All right, you ready to get back to this? Finish this down? Fuck yeah, let's do this. Let's do this.
SPEAKER_03It's all alone. You're alone.
SPEAKER_12And the breathing. It's the De Niro face.
SPEAKER_14One day you'll hear what I'm saying. One day you might understand one day, but not today, for after all.
SPEAKER_12Just again Keegan's vocals. Just insane. She's she Yeah, she's ridiculous.
SPEAKER_10I mean, just she hit uh in the in the bit just before that, uh, she had when they were when they're in the arguing bit, when they're yelling at each other. But the way she sung that was angry. And and she you but her octave, she had a different octave that she hasn't hit in this whole thing so far, but it just and it added so much power and gravity to her voice and made and giving her that goddess voice um without having to put an effect on it. She's just singing that way, so take it my word. Um and and then again, she just brings that out of Jorge. Not that Jorge isn't an amazing, powerful singer in himself, but she is got power in the in those chords, like crazy power, but man, those two together. But as soon as that just a man bit hits, and that quick piano on the end and the high keys that and just the chills hit, and then the risers that he put in there, and then the quick washout, and then it just boom from there from the rest of it is oh magnifique.
SPEAKER_12Just so bam, it I do just want to say a dick move though to use the ghosts of his crew as your backing singers.
SPEAKER_10Okay, so if we're breaking up, leverage, mind you, what I'm really like. Yeah, right? Like just here, like you know what? But if you think about it, God reporting it. If you think about it, that goes back to her saying, We'll see. When we laughed at that bit, and he's like, Oh, okay. She was herself then with a potential, then she goes through the friendship and the relationship with him, and then she comes on the back end of that, she's like, told yourself, yeah, this I'm not going to be kind if this doesn't work out. Like, that's not who I am. Just yeah. But yeah, super dick move.
SPEAKER_12I'm smashing these vocals. You know what would help is more dead friends.
SPEAKER_14Not today, for after all, you're dead!
SPEAKER_12Like Imagine being Odie, like you're already like sweating and a bit fearful because you're arguing with Athena, your mentor, and who you thought is your friend, and she is saying that she's saying goodbye, and then all of a sudden you're freshly dead mates. Just we're gonna see.
SPEAKER_01And I believe that is holities right there. Right. So it's like, damn.
unknownDamn.
SPEAKER_01I really do gotta go back and get Tommy's damn. Damn, there's a kid there. Is that that kid? I don't know. But either way. Yeah. Anyway, yeah. That's messed up. And then to have them surround him.
SPEAKER_12And give him a few. She's saying goodbye, and I'm also gonna make them say goodbye in this moment. Yeah. Oh, you thought it was just me leaving? Nah. Say goodbye to any chance you had of talking to your friends again.
SPEAKER_10As their aberrations are surrounding him and disappearing. That's him losing his vision of being able to see her because she has turned that off.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Because in that mythology, the gods and goddesses can choose whether the mortals can see them or not. It's a thing that they can do. So man.
SPEAKER_12In in uh Warrior of the Mind, when he's like, show yourself. I know you're watching me show yourself. Like, it's and she's like, what the fuck? Is this thing on? Yeah.
SPEAKER_10But the fact that he's he's aware and can feel her presence obviously makes her want to show herself to a boy who's actually sensitive to it, right? Yeah. So yeah, the callbacks, Jorge, buddy, buddy. I was a bit skeptical. Uh I am no longer what are what are the epic followers called again? Winyans. Winyons? You got another one. I think. Uh I I I think you have gained another one because it's it is it's epically good.
SPEAKER_12It's epically good. It's so far. I'm so happy. I because after the first after the first saga, like I knew you enjoyed it, and I knew you would go and listen to it, and then you truly understand it. Um and obviously I was I was excited to show you the first saga, but I knew that this would be the one that got you. Do you know how I knew that? Because this is the saga that got me. When my eldest showed me some of the epic songs, and I was like, oh yeah, okay, they're okay. He was like he was like, Daddy, put on polythemus. I could he couldn't say polythemus, bless him. I can't remember how he said it the first few times, but he can say it now. Uh and yeah, when he was like, put on polythemus, uh, I think he just called it the Cyclops song, actually. Anyway, uh yeah, we I I put that one on. I was like, Oh, that's actually quite good. And then and then survive, and then it goes into remember them and just oh my god, I was like, Yep, cool, I'm hooked. Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Especially with that loud, but yeah, this this song is this one's yeah. Oh my steering wheel.
SPEAKER_12I know, yeah, and I again I apologize to to you and to to you listeners and viewers for your eardrums.
SPEAKER_10I I it's a good thing I've had pre-work on my ears from years of like singing and listening to music entirely too loud with systems that had no business being in my vehicle. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_12Yeah. There's uh some damage there already, so you probably got off lightly. Um yeah, I I apologize. I do try to keep my singing in check, but it's just I know there's a few songs that I'm gonna really struggle and probably fail at not singing along to um as we go along this journey. As we go along this epic journey.
SPEAKER_10That's like getting hit by a slow-motion punch that you could see coming from a mile away and you still couldn't block it. You couldn't say anything. You're just you're dumbfounded by it.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, uh he won't. He won't. Oh, he did. Yeah, you're not gonna Okay, you're dead. Yeah. One million dollars. Austin Power's farther Shifty, I appreciate you want to make an appearance on this show, however this is actually being quite cohesive. If you could just be mostly cohesive, if you could just exit the stage. Thank you. Before we can't fight Shifty off anymore. I suggest we wrap this up. Yes. Let's probably do that. Cool. Do you want to watch do you want to listen to the next song? Do you want to record the next episode for this now? No. No. Fuck! Okay, yeah, go away. And digest, re-listen, and and yeah, we'll we'll we'll hit we'll catch up with you guys when we get back to the next episode, which will be another Ren reaction, probably.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, we're just every othering at this point. Uh just know that every other episode at this point is going to be a Ren and Webby episode, and then we'll do epic sagas, and then once we've gone through epic, we will find something else. Uh maybe we'll continue on with the rock one that we're talking about, uh and the metal reaction. We'll have maybe we'll work on getting that out to you by then so we can record a few of those sounds. And we'll replace those because uh the rest of Inpatient is going to be released in July, and that means we get all of them, and that means Connor and I are going to record a bunch of episodes of that in a row because once we have the rest of the album, I know that neither one of us will have the composure or the willpower to not listen to the rest of the songs before we listen to them on disc.
SPEAKER_12Yes. I I I'm just glad that I've listened to Epic already, because I yeah, otherwise I'd be really struggling. I don't know how you're doing it, because I'm excited to listen to the next lot.
SPEAKER_10I don't know how I'm doing it uh with Ren and Webby because after uh after the last episode you guys saw uh dude tarantula and smoking gun. I have listened to Tarantula so many times over again.
SPEAKER_01It is so good.
SPEAKER_10Oh god, when that smoking gun is great, too. It's such a good song. So funny. And like one of our people, uh one of our people, one of our people, uh, one of you subscribers uh did comment uh on there about how is how are these two songs on the same album? And then the comments of people uh talking about how we have listened to the certain two songs together and how they don't go together, but oddly they do. Because it shows you the crazy range of what's happening, kind of like this, an epic. The crazy range of emotions and and attitude and everything that's going through this where the genre is staying the same, but damn, it is changing a great deal from song to song within that genre, like and hitting you with heavy metal to synthesizers to uh tychodrums, um, to the orchestra, right? And then all of the uh just yeah. Okay. Until next time on whatever we are reacting to.
SPEAKER_12Uh just one final last no, I know. Just one final last thing. If you are enjoying these epic reactions, do go check out our impatient reactions and our Ren reactions as well. Because there's some good stuff there. Um and our NF reaction. Oh god, I can always forget about the NF reaction because obviously, but that was the first one that started the reactions for us. Because if you want to see Matt and I cry lots, go watch the NF reaction.
SPEAKER_10That was my one-to-year reference in the intro of the one I was referencing to.
SPEAKER_12What did we call the episode? Can you remember? Uh oh. Did you hear something? Did you hear something?
SPEAKER_10Maybe it was Did You Hear Something? Did You Hear Something? Yeah.
SPEAKER_12Episode 28.5, Did You Hear Something?
SPEAKER_10Also, we have this crazy new technology where I'll just put that video in the box up here if you guys are still listening at the end of the outro. And you can click on it and go to it.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, we'll do that. If I remember. You he will. You will. I'll remind you remind me to remind you, and then you'll remember. Got it. So wish us luck with that. And until next time. Diss you later, and as always. Later. Love you bye. Love you bye.
SPEAKER_11Right, wave it.
SPEAKER_12You fucking idiot. I suggest we wrap this up. Yes. Let's probably do that. Cool.
SPEAKER_11Bye.
